It’s been a while, but I just haven’t been motivated to write. I have no good excuses besides just pure laziness. But at any rate, I need to dump the leftover Spring thoughts before I start a new season. Just work with me, eh?

We went to Seattle for our vacation this year. We had $500 in free airfare to burn before June and Seattle was about the only destination that sounded interesting and made the most of our free flight. Seattle is a great city, but I must claim the our first impression is probably a little off because it didn’t rain a drop while we were there. Seattle is often compared to London – always raining and overcast. But we lucked out and it was 65 degrees and sunny for the three days we were there. Frankly, it was our kind of town. Casual, young, good downtown where you can walk, very beautiful and it’s not hot, nor very cold. I thought Seattle was great because there was just enough to do without having too much to do.

It seems when you go to the “major” cities like New York or Chicago there is so much to do that you spend too much time trying to jam pack your trip with stuff that you’re too busying worrying about time management and not enough time enjoying where you are. Seattle gives you just enough “things” and places to go that you feel like you’ve not completely wasted your trip, but then when you’re done visiting someplace you have time to just enjoy the city. The Seattle Center where the Space Needle is located is a nice park. Lots of running around space and it’s pretty. As far as stuff to do, the Experience Music Project is a smaller version of the Rock-n-Roll Hall of Fame, but it’s better because there is more to do at EMP. Then attached to EMP is the Science Fiction Museum, which (for me) was extremely cool. There is a ton of memorabilia from movies, TV, and books. Unfortunately, neither place lets you take pictures – which totally blows – so I have no photos to show. The photos I do have though show you just how nice Seattle was.

The game I made, Zombie Road, is being played a lot, and not just by my friends. Response has been very good and it’s still fun to play. I’m actually in the middle of making Zombie Road 2 right now, but I have no clue when it will be done. I’m in no hurry.

Spider-man 3 was a mild disappointment but still enjoyable. It was a little too long and tried to cover too much Spider-man story at one time. There were too many characters. They didn’t make it a point to develop much of either character, not even Peter or Mary Jane, and when you can’t focus on your main characters in a way they deserve then your movie has gone awry. I have free passes to see Pirates of the Caribbean, and there is no possible way this Pirates can be worse than the last Pirates. Pirates 2 was a complete scam and left a very bad taste in my mouth.

The TV shows are all done now. Desperate Housewives ended a much better season pretty well. It’s start to become a little too soap opera-y, but thankfully the guys on that show make it worth watching. The women are all but becoming unbearable to watch and deal with. Too much drama. And speaking of drama, 24 ended it’s season too – albeit at the opposite end of the spectrum with not enough drama. Although last season (#5) was my first season watching 24 from start to finish, I think it is safe to say that most fans of 24 felt this season was a little weak. Not enough of the Jack Bauer action we were used too, and way too much government soap opera. And the way they ended they can do almost anything with the show next season. Hopefully we’ll get back to the action we all want.

Jen and her first on-line venture will be featured in an upcoming book. Her forum site, Barney’s Angels, is dedicated to Bernard Sumner of New Order/Joy Division fame. A biography of the guy was written and the author interviewed Jen about the site and Bernard. The book is due out in August…more on that as we hear it. Although, a movie about the lead singer of Joy Division is coming out soon and it is already getting good reviews – and that means the public interest in Joy Division will be much greater than ever before and hopefully that means more visitors for her. Buy it and check out Chapter 13 (apparently).

My Playstation 2 is on its last legs. I went to play Guitar Hero last night and it started to sputter and ping. From what I’ve read I think the laser gizmo is out of whack. I took it apart but didn’t have small enough screwdriver to get the screw out. Hopefully it can be resurrected. Guitar Hero 80s edition is coming out this summer and it’s going to be a must have. But then I read Guitar Hero 3 will be on Wii, so at that point I’m at a crossroads…continue to go with the dying PS2? Or pony up for a new combo on the Wii which will be supported and probably have downloadable content. Time will tell. Our computers are both due for an upgrade too, both in video, mine in power. I saw today that Starcraft 2 was announced and that is almost enough for me to drop the bonus I got at work on the necessary upgrades. I hate technology.

And on the immature-but-hiliarious side of things, Jen was studying at Stauf’s the other day and IM’ed me with the funniest thing I’ve heard in a long, long time. So funny that I was literally laughing out loud at work. Unfortunately, most of the people at work can’t appreciate the crude humor. So she’s studying for her super teacher test that is one of the last steps to becoming a full time teacher. It just so happens that one of the topics is about a test called the Woodcock-Johnson Tests for Achievement. I just about snarfed. Never ever should the words “cock,” “wood,” “johnson,” “test,” and “achievement” be in the same sentence together. After said snarffing, I was taken back to a book I have about development by a game named Cockburn. Let’s just hope they don’t all collaborate on a book or essay – edited by Woodcock-Johnson & Cockburn. Ouch.

So Spring came and is on the way out. And with gas nearing $4.00 per gallon, it looks like this will be a summer spent at home.
