Glad to be of service. :) What Kasey said was true - most of us that had hair rocked the mullet, myself included. Working at Nintendo was a lot of fun; a lot of us are still in the video game biz today. I wound up going into game testing, and eventually became a game designer. Even got to work on the Metroid Prime games for Retro & Nintendo, which is a little ironic since NES Metroid was one of the games I had to know front and back to work as a Game Counselor back in the day!

Like so much of the internet, I discovered your site by accident. It blew my mind to see one of the letters I wrote from so many years ago. It was also fun to see some of my old cohorts at Nintendo, like Brian and Kirk. We had a lot of fun back then, and I’ll remember my 4 years or so at Nintendo as some of the best times in my life. We were all just out of high school, practically still teenagers, making money by playing games and chatting about them.

I’m glad you kept those letters. Bummer you didn’t have my profile from Nintendo Power - I have fond memories of my own mullet and would have loved to see a picture. What can I say? We were young metalheads from the northwest. Mullets were rocker cred.

I spent so much time on Golgo 13. Dick Togo is the m-f’in man.

When I wrote in for help it was for one of two things: a) I was REALLY stuck on a game, or b) I was asking for free stuff, like maps.

And for the most part, I didn’t figure out a solution before their letter arrived. Their answers really did help me through some games.

Talk about a job that the internet killed! I’m actually surprised to still see strategy guides on bookshelves. What can’t you find out about a game on-line now? It’s almost too easy.

But to that end, as you know, finding info on-line can be hard to backup and isn’t necessarily presented in the best manner. When writing in I was at least assured it would come back complete and from a legit source.

Of course, it may be tough at times to find certain NES games on-line because they’re either too old or just too many people are focusing on the next “classic” system, like PS1 or even N64.

I found a few other things amongst these Nintendo letters that I’m going to scan and post up somewhere.

I wonder if the Game Play Counselors had mullet-off’s back in the day. Whoever had the weakest mullet that week had to buy lunch.
