Back on the web radio

Some years ago we used to do a weekly on-line radio show. It was just me and Jen rambling into the night about various topics and experiences. We quit about four years ago or so as we got married, got a house, acquired four pets and new jobs. But the radio itch is back.

Only this time it’s a hell of a lot easier to get ourselves on-line and playing. Before we had a complex setup of computers, mixers, mics, and had to stream from our own cable connection. These days it’s easier than ever to get up and streaming thanks to UStream.

If you’ve seen the too-cute Puppy Cam then you’ve watched UStream. It’s a free streaming service usually used for video, but it supports audio just as well too. With UStream’s ease of setup, my motivation to get back “on the air” was a little easier to come by.

I dug out all of our mics, cables, and mixers out of the garage and have them all setup and ready to rip. We don’t know what we’re going to do different this time, really, but it sounds like fun to do together…and hopefully this time we may be able to drag more people with us. The show was called CAVEcrew Live! the last time around, but this time we’re going to go with Ted and the Other Guy. Why? For absolutely no raisin, but I’m the Other Guy.
Before we had to rely on AIM for chatting with whatever two listeners managed to stumble across us. This time we’re armed with Twitter, YouTube, and a host of other freebie services that should get the word out a little further. Whether or not people stop to listen that remains to be seen, but we hope you check it out.

We’ll be broadcasting live every week just like we did before. It’s shaping up to be Thursdays at 10P for what will probably be a 2-hour show. Of course, we did have marathon 3-hour shows back in the day, but come midnight we’re tired these days. Of course, the live show allows for more participation but UStream offers a convenient recording option, so you should be able to catch show replays easily too.

I really don’t want to use the word “podcast” to describe what we do, mostly because we don’t really have a topic. Plus we don’t do any production or editing. We go on the air live, mix live, and record live. But then again, to convey to people that we do this all on-line, “podcasting” give them more clues.

We have some more ideas this time around for the show. What you will hopefully get are a few more structured segments within the show. Or at least a few topics that we always hit on each week amongst the randomness. Maybe the “show about nothing” concept is overdone or not good for attracting interest, but that’s about all we can do. Honestly, the show is just our commentary on life.

As said before, we’re on the Twitter, so follow us and stay abreast of our shows and other goodies. We’re gonna see if this all works. It may be a very short trip, who knows…

(Oh, and the whole CAVEradio name is the name we used to broadcast under way back when. It’s catchy and I’m partial to it, even if just for sentimental reasons, but it doesn’t mean much.)

Thanks :) Totally pulled that branding out of our ass. It’ll probably change. The show will be train wreck and it will be awesome! I just hope everyone comes back for show #2…ha!
