Flickr finally figures out Twitter

Part of the fun in using Twitter is the ease by which you can share photos and even video. Twitpic was one of the early services that offered mail-to-Twitter but now Flickr has finally gotten their act together.

I spoke out loud not long ago how I see one major problem with Twitpic - retaining the photos for your personal digital shoebox. I use Flickr for my normal photos so many of my life’s pictures end up there. In the end Flickr will become my digital photo album of choice.

But as I share more and more photos through Twitter I was splitting up my photos. Flickr was for the more “traditional” photos while Twitpic was left for on-the-spot photos. I was starting to plan for a routine to copy my Twitpic photos to Flickr but they beat me to the punch - thankfully.

Flickr recently launched a beta for their own Twitter integration which pretty much does the same thing Twitpic does. They give you a custom e-mail address and you mail your phone photos and they end up in your normal photostream.

A quick sign-up and it was working wonderfully. So now I don’t have to worry about losing track of my photos across varying services. If you’re a Twittering photographer, go get a Flickr account and hook it all up. Flickr offers a lot more organization and tracking options than Twitpic does.

Now the trick is figuring out how to organize my Flickr pages to best capitalize on the increase of people coming for the Twittered pictures. But that’s a good problem to have.
