Even more Military Madness
A while ago I discovered Military Madness for the (retro) TurboGrafix 16. It’s a turn-based strategy game that had me playing for hours on end. It was a game that hit the sweet spot for me when it came to strategy games - not too complex yet not too easy. Well, Hudson recently remade Military Madness for XBLA and it’s I could have hoped for in an Xbox port.
Honestly, this port is just that. There’s really nothing new here except some welcomed updated graphics. The play action is exactly as the original. The controls are nicely laid out on the controller as well. My only improvement would have been to make the unit database a little more accessible. Unless you’re really familiar with the game you don’t know the strengths and weaknesses of each unit - I don’t know them all. So you have to look them up to check their stats.

The only true addition to the game is on-line multiplayer for up to four people. I tried to join a quick match and found none, so I tried creating a match and no one came. So either no one happened to be playing, or no one bought the game. Yes, I did buy the full game - it’s only $10 - and it’s worth it if you enjoy strategy games and don’t mind slowing combat down turn-based style. Think of it as battle chess.
I’m glad Hudson chose to redo the game because more people can now enjoy it without having to find a PC Engine emulator to run it. If you happen to download this nice little game, drop a message or look for AngryEdison on XBLA and we’ll have a match. If you beat me, I’ll send you a CAVEradio sticker. How’s that for incentive? Ha.
And for you iPhone people, there’s an app for Military Madness too.
