The new TV, part 1

Outside of a house and couple cars, the new TV we bought over Thanksgiving is the single most expensive purchase we’ve ever made. Last year we wimped out. This year we were determined. Best part is, no one had to get up at the crack of dawn to get a good deal.

A great deal, no shopping required

The 46″ Samsung we bought was an great find with an interesting price. On the Black Friday sale web site, the TV was listed as going on sale Friday for $848, down from close to $1100. But when I went to Walmart’s web site to get the model number for some research, it was listed at $798…and this was on Thanksgiving night, not even a Black Friday. So the Thanksgiving day price was LESS than the Friday sale? Bizarre…but I’ll take it!

We went to the local Walmart to see if they had it in stock but they did not, so our only option for getting that price was buying it on-line. Now I’m not a person that likes buying high ticket items on-line. I forsee too many potential problems with getting big items on-line…returning, delivery…all that stuff just becomes way more complicated. Why buy it on-line when I can drive 5 minutes and buy right now? Too bad that wasn’t an option this time.

And anyone that knows me shouldn’t be surprised that I almost wimped out again this year. Thankfully Jen was on the bandwagon this year and, if nothing else, wanted it just so I’d stop bitching about it.

The next chapter

Once the new TV gets here the next part begins…adapting our living room to accommodate the big TV. Big TVs have a lot of hidden cost in my book. Assuming you’re upgrading from a small TV like us, a big TV means new furniture and the puzzle of how to organize all your crap so that it all has a home.

I do look forward to enjoying all my movies on a big screen. It might just be enough to breath life back into a few of the titles.

What movie should I watch first on mega TV?
What would you watch?

Way to go guys! I’m glad Jen kicked your butt and made you press the button.

I’d watch Dark Knight on it.

The TV I bought this past January was a 46″ Samsung LCD, and I love it!
Great picture, I would definitely go for the high def cable. The picture from the satellite isn’t that good, and I can’t afford the high def package. When I just hooked up an antenna and watched the new over-the-air digital signal, and some of the stations looked amazing. I bought mine online and had it delivered, and it went off without a hitch. I don’t regret buying this TV for a minute, and I know you won’t either.
