The true Urban Champion
Going old school
Actually, Urban Champion on VC is the same - that’s whole point - but it’s still not playing the original game on original hardware. So when my NES deck returned home after years of being an at-work arcade, I decided to make claim to being the true Urban Champion, holding records for both versions.
A quick $4 purchase on-line and an original Urban Champion cartridge was in my hands. After that all it took was a lazy Sunday afternoon, which is easy to afford.
I may not complete many of the projects I start, but this is one I was happy to waste time achieving.
My official high score: 8,649
I am now the true Urban Champion, as officially recorded by Twin Galaxies. Two world records for the same game. Sounds odd but hey, that’s the way it works. I guess I can truly say that Urban Champion is “my” game. I have to admit that’s kind of sad since there are so many more games I’d rather claim as being a world champion. But I’m lazy. It’s not a crime.
This time, however, I think I will order an official certificate from Twin Galaxies. It’s a rip-off, sure, but I’m really kicking myself for not getting one when I first got the Robocop record. Being third at that game really chimes my bell but beating the current high score takes more than just patience like UC does.
But I will get my Robocop title back. All in good time.
