Our first radio show back on the air wasn’t too bad. A lot of friends showed up to listen and chat and even though we were late to the dance thanks to some technical fooling, all went pretty well.
The new Ustream service we picked up worked pretty well. The built-in chat was a little to be desired, but it did work and let us talk with listeners. The lag between us and Ustream was very short, so when we asked a question on-air, people could answer in chat and we’d …

My intern’s last day of work was this past week. While it seemed to have been very short, he was here for nearly three months. The experience overall was a good one. However, I don’t think I’m ready to be a supervisor. Sure, it’s “fun” to be able to tell people what to do, but it does take away from what I’m doing and right now I still like “doing” rather than “telling.”
I also discovered that I’m not a good teacher. There’s a reason the Wife teaches and a reason …

Some years ago we used to do a weekly on-line radio show. It was just me and Jen rambling into the night about various topics and experiences. We quit about four years ago or so as we got married, got a house, acquired four pets and new jobs. But the radio itch is back.
Only this time it’s a hell of a lot easier to get ourselves on-line and playing. Before we had a complex setup of computers, mixers, mics, and had to stream from our own cable connection. These days …

I’m a big fan of arcade-style shooters. Games like Galaga, Space Invaders, Aero Fighters, 1942, R-Type, Star Force, Gradius…all those type games. I’ve spent much effort trying to collect these games through emulators and lucky buys, but one hot shmup has eluded me until now.
That game is Ikaruga, cited by many as the best shmup there is. Ikaruga was an arcade game first, then ported to various consoles several years ago. It ended up on the GameCube and DreamCast, both of which I didn’t own. I had never played Ikaruga, …

I admit, I’m on quite a zombie kick lately. I’m sure it will blow over or get burned out like any other kick, but for now I’m riding it for all its worth. And this time I targeted my zombie love at Twitter.
My original idea was to use Twitter as a gaming method. Some sort of RPG on Twitter where players can send in commands and so on like a good old classic text-based RPG. I mentioned the idea to my bud Don the Idea Guy and he quickly turned …

I like logos. I’m a logo nerd. Logos are some of my favorite things to look at and design, albeit not always successful. Good logos are hard to design. I think logos are special to design because while they are meant to communicate, they don’t have to be straight forward.
Some logos are simply the name of the company in a fancy font. Some logos are abstract designs that mean nothing when taken out of context. Some logos combine the two. And many, many, many logos are just poor. What makes …

When it comes to games I’m not a big first-person shooter (FPS) gamer. Part of the reason is that many of them focus on on-line play, which I just can’t keep up with anymore. Back in the days when I was Doom-ing and Duke Nukem-ing all night it was a different story. So these days it takes a little more to get me hooked.
Since I essentially grew up with shooters, many of the games these days just seem like old games with better graphics. All the Halos and Call of …

As a self-proclaimed non-reader, I may not be a likely candidate to enjoy the public library - but I love the library. I admit, I don’t go often but then again, I think that is a problem many libraries are facing these days. Whether it be the internet, Netflix, or just laziness, the libraries need more patrons. As odd as it may sound, a library is a business and businesses need customers.
When I was a kid the library was only good for three things: their set of encyclopedias, the Apple …
