As a consumer of most things arcade-shooter, when I saw Vorpal show up in the Indie store for a dollar, it was a pretty much a no-brainer. And for what it lacks in depth it makes up for with one simple red line. Continue reading

Protect Me Knight, not tower defense but action defense
Protect Me Knight is an Xbox Indie game that drew me in with retro graphics but blew me away with a great concept, top notch game play and just a lot of fun…not to mention the cool retro graphics and music. If you like tower defense games, then Protect Me Knight brings a new challenge of an overlooked genre…the action defense game. Continue reading
Jackasses, both of them
My reign as Urban Champion has come to end after less than a year. I held both the Wii and NES world records for the game but recently they’ve both been surpassed. So it’s time to brush up on my game…actually, I need to find the game. Continue reading
Epic Dungeon, level grinding made fun
Role playing games really aren’t my bag. Yeah, I played the first Zelda and I’ve played my share of RPGs, including a Final Fantasy, but overall they just don’t stick. Most RPGs just require too much paying attention and micromanagement. But there are a few exceptions. Continue reading
Pac-Man CE DX: Reality
Some people look forward to the release of new shooters, like Black Ops. Me, I look forward to the release of a new Pac-man game. One costs me $60 and took hundreds of people to make, the other only $10 and probably made by a handful of folks. Pac-Man CE DX makes it clear that it doesn’t take a lot to make good game that is fun and challenging. Continue reading
Indie games start an uprising
I’m a fan of indie games on the Xbox Live Arcade. Yes, there are plenty of cheap avatar games and other shovelware in the indie marketplace, but there are also lots of games worthy of your pennies that will keep you entertained and returning to play. But I admit they aren’t easy to find or spot. Continue reading
Pac-Man CE DX: Expectations
So this week the latest incarnation of Pac-Man gets released, Pac-Man CE DX. I’ve been reading about this title for a while and if follows in the pedigree of Pac-Man CE (sans the DX), then us arcade gamers should be in for a good time. Continue reading
Finally, a PC in the living room
Our (new) TV has more ports than I knew what to do with…until now. We’ve had the TV for just about a year and I feel like I’m just starting to take advantage of it. Unfortunately, this new avenue of geeking out may require some additional hardware…but it’ll be worth it. Continue reading
Crate-O-Games, Metal Gear
Ah, Metal Gear. One of my most beloved franchises thanks to its first NES game. Guns, espionage, maps, giant robots…what’s not to love? This was the first NES game I completed outside of Super Mario Bros., but it wasn’t without some help. And believe me, you needed help with this game. Continue reading
Split/Second blurs by other racers
Split/Second is one game where the demo does not do it justice. This game and Blur were released around the same time. I played both demos and Blur seemed like better game so it was there that I placed my bet. While I didn’t bet entirely on the wrong horse, Split/Second is more of what I was looking for, even if I didn’t know it. Continue reading
Crate-O-Games, Ironsword
I spent part of the day organizing and cleaning around the house in attempts to find a laptop bag that may contain my NES ROM cartridge. Unfortunately, I didn’t find the bag or the cart but in the process did have to move my Crate-O-Games for the NES. Seeing these carts is always a trip down memory lane, and not just playing the game but the event that surrounded each one. Continue reading
Castlevania, whipping itself back into my heart
Castlevania is one of my favorite video game franchises. Fond memories of playing the first three games on the NES cemented it as a “classic”, but not until this week’s release of the demo for the latest Castlevania game did it really hit me why it’s such a fun franchise. Continue reading
