Yet more tales from Counselor’s Corner

I must be doing something right as yet another former Nintendo Power Game Play Counselor has fallen into my interview trap! Unsuspecting ex-GPC Matthew Glidden stumbled across what is quickly becoming a GPC Hall of Fame and made the mistake of leaving a comment…so naturally he had to be interviewed. Continue reading

Becoming a professional blogger

Everyone is a blogger. I’m a blogger, you’re a blogger. If you have a Tumblr or WordPress and in some cases, Facebook, you’re a blogger, right? And I know when you hear the phrase, “I’m a blogger” you roll your eyes. I do. But that being said, I am now officially a professional blogger. Continue reading

The best day at the zoo

The first trip to the Columbus Zoo I remember was with my kindergarten class. I remember that trip for two reasons: I remember eating lunch in the big shelter house with all my friends, and I remember seeing a giraffe eat from a tree. Up until recently, that was probably the most active I’d ever seen animals at the zoo and the most fun I’ve ever had there in the past 25 years of going. Continue reading

Crate-O-Games, Metal Gear

Ah, Metal Gear. One of my most beloved franchises thanks to its first NES game. Guns, espionage, maps, giant robots…what’s not to love? This was the first NES game I completed outside of Super Mario Bros., but it wasn’t without some help. And believe me, you needed help with this game. Continue reading

Split/Second blurs by other racers

Split/Second is one game where the demo does not do it justice. This game and Blur were released around the same time. I played both demos and Blur seemed like better game so it was there that I placed my bet. While I didn’t bet entirely on the wrong horse, Split/Second is more of what I was looking for, even if I didn’t know it. Continue reading

Netflix, resistance is futile

I’m not afraid to admit when I’m wrong. Now I might argue my case for days before I make that admission, but you can’t argue with facts. And the fact is, Netflix is awesome. I had my doubts but after as little as two days with Netflix it has come to be that resistance was futile. Continue reading

Gaming as the gods intended…with a joystick

You know I’m an arcade gamer. I’m not just a fan of old retro arcade games, but modern arcade-style games as well. I just find them much more motivating than many other genres and enjoy their simplicity. But as you probably know, the modern video game controller is less than optimal for these types of games. Continue reading

The wrestling circus

Remember going to the circus? I remember going almost yearly when I was little and I was always excited, but then when we got there it was always a little disappointing. I guess it’s because I’m the video game generation and gas like a minibike in a sphere didn’t really amaze me. Thankfully though, as an adult there is another circus to enjoy – pro wrestling. Continue reading

Is that Burt Reynolds?

Lets start with the basics…action figures. I had so many action figures as a kid I just can’t even begin to count. If I had some sort of check list in front of me I could tell you which ones I had, but safe to say I had dozens upon dozens from various franchises, GI Joe being my favorite. But that doesn’t I mean I wasn’t without the lame action figures, like a space pirate and Burt Reynolds? Continue reading

Time to talk toys

It’s no secret that I love toys. Who doesn’t? But while some people “grow out” of toys, I’m not ashamed to be a fan of toys even as I enter my 30s. Like the rest of us, I’ve lost many toys since I as little. They were either out right lost, sucked up in the vacuum, blow apart, or melted down in a spectacular pyro display. But some toys survived, and most of them ended up in a box – the Box of Lost Toys. Continue reading
