Yet more tales from Counselor’s Corner
I must be doing something right as yet another former Nintendo Power Game Play Counselor has fallen into my interview trap! Unsuspecting ex-GPC Matthew Glidden stumbled across what is quickly becoming a GPC Hall of Fame and made the mistake of leaving a comment…so naturally he had to be interviewed.

Becoming a professional blogger
Everyone is a blogger. I’m a blogger, you’re a blogger. If you have a Tumblr or Wordpress and in some cases, Facebook, you’re a blogger, right? And I know when you hear the phrase, “I’m a blogger” you roll your eyes. I do. But that being said, I am now officially a professional blogger.

Humans and robots
Robots are near and dear the hearts of any sci-fi fan. Robots spell both hope and fear for the future. But we don’t have to wait until the future to have fun with our robots. Today we have robots playing Jeopardy and we find Detroit in need of a robot hero.

The best day at the zoo
The first trip to the Columbus Zoo I remember was with my kindergarten class. I remember that trip for two reasons: I remember eating lunch in the big shelter house with all my friends, and I remember seeing a giraffe eat from a tree. Up until recently, that was probably the most active I’d ever [...]

Crate-O-Games, Metal Gear
Ah, Metal Gear. One of my most beloved franchises thanks to its first NES game. Guns, espionage, maps, giant robots…what’s not to love? This was the first NES game I completed outside of Super Mario Bros., but it wasn’t without some help. And believe me, you needed help with this game.

Split/Second blurs by other racers
Split/Second is one game where the demo does not do it justice. This game and Blur were released around the same time. I played both demos and Blur seemed like better game so it was there that I placed my bet. While I didn’t bet entirely on the wrong horse, Split/Second is more of what [...]

Netflix, resistance is futile
I’m not afraid to admit when I’m wrong. Now I might argue my case for days before I make that admission, but you can’t argue with facts. And the fact is, Netflix is awesome. I had my doubts but after as little as two days with Netflix it has come to be that resistance was [...]

Gaming as the gods intended…with a joystick
You know I’m an arcade gamer. I’m not just a fan of old retro arcade games, but modern arcade-style games as well. I just find them much more motivating than many other genres and enjoy their simplicity. But as you probably know, the modern video game controller is less than optimal for these types of [...]

The wrestling circus
Remember going to the circus? I remember going almost yearly when I was little and I was always excited, but then when we got there it was always a little disappointing. I guess it’s because I’m the video game generation and gas like a minibike in a sphere didn’t really amaze me. Thankfully though, as [...]

I’m now a Product Manager
I have a new job title, and that title is the most ambiguous Product Manager. I have to admit it sounds a little less important than the Internet Services Director title I had, but thankfully I’m not a title whore.

Is that Burt Reynolds?
Lets start with the basics…action figures. I had so many action figures as a kid I just can’t even begin to count. If I had some sort of check list in front of me I could tell you which ones I had, but safe to say I had dozens upon dozens from various franchises, GI [...]

Time to talk toys
It’s no secret that I love toys. Who doesn’t? But while some people “grow out” of toys, I’m not ashamed to be a fan of toys even as I enter my 30s. Like the rest of us, I’ve lost many toys since I as little. They were either out right lost, sucked up in the [...]

Help us buy a new TV
Despite us saying we’re not big TV people, we tend to watch a lot of TV throughout the week. But it’s scattered. One show on this night, another on that night. We’re not glued to the TV every night gagging on Dancing with the Stars. We also don’t have a DVR so we have to [...]

Life at 30
Finally, 30. I think I’ve wanted to be 30 since I was 12. That’s not to say I didn’t enjoy all my years up to this point. There were great and wonderful, but I think I’ve always longed for the days when you can finally relax and enjoy whatever it is you want to. And [...]

Being a paintball noob
Playing paintball is one of those things I always wanted to do as a kid but never got around to doing. I always viewed it as an activity that was too expensive (and it is) and I also figured I’d be really bad at it and “die” quickly, sucking whatever fun there was to be [...]

XBL Arcade games need DLC too
The arcade games on Xbox Live are typically pretty cheap, usually under the $20 price point, which makes them very appealing for cheap gamers like myself. But in the age of downloadable content (DLC), gamers expect a longer shelf life for games…even the cheap ones. Too bad developers are seemingly overlooking the DLC for arcade [...]

Sounds of a Friday night
It’s been five weeks since we started playing Dungeons & Dragons with some friends on Friday nights. The fact that we’re still playing after five weeks is a good sign that everyone is having some fun. Some might find it hard to believe that a Friday night of D&D would be fun, but this week [...]
