This next upgrade still amazes me only in the fact that it took 4-years before we got a CD-ROM
in the computer. But now that I see it was $300 I can understand the waiting. Even then it was
quite a shocker to me, as we didn't even get our first home CD player til much later. Some how
I remember a little thing called Windows 95 be released earlier in the year. Is that upgrade
on the horizon. Oh nay - viva la resistance!

The move to CD-ROM
Yes, adding a CD-ROM was apparenly a big deal - back in 1995. Frankly, I'm not sure
how we went until '95 without a CD-ROM - apparently nothing we needed was on CD then.
This upgrade requires a little explaination. No, we did not pay $299 for a 4x CD-ROM drive. This was
a bundle package that included a 16-bit sound card as well. But I must admit, $299 even then is amazing.
So prior, besides the lack of CD capability, we computerized like Helen Keller as well - not hearing a damn thing.
Today's comparison:
One 56x CD-ROM, $30.
One 16-bit sound card, $20.
And after a 3-year journey our family computer was the way it would be until then end of
its glorious, mechanical life. Shortly after this I started my first job at a retail computer store. From
here lets just say computers, upgrades and the likes were a little cheaper, and oh so more frequent and numerous.
