We all quote movies or television. Whatever your favorite movie or TV show is, you’ve whipped out a line at work, at home, or out with friends - and usually you say it to add a little humor. But there are cases when the popular quote hits home.
I can’t tell you how many Star Wars quotes I’ve uttered during by years. And over the past several Office Space is becoming a close second.
Quotes like, “That’s no moon, it’s a space station,” from Star Wars, or “Game over, man! Game over!” from Aliens. And don’t forget TV - including cartoons - which includes every Simpsons, Futurama, and Family Guy quote you’ve tossed out. Just think along the lines of “Exxxcellent, Smithers,” or “Victory is mine!” I’m sure you can keep going.
Now the convenience store back in the neighborhood has been many things over the years. It’s been a Stop N’ Go and Dairy Mart at least. Now it shines on as a Circle K. Circle what? Had it not been for Hollywood, I wouldn’t know either.
I’ve never seen a Circle K anywhere around here in Ohio. But, if you go back to the ’90s silver screen classic, Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure, you may recall Ted’s quality quote, “strange things are afoot at the Circle K,” in reference to when a telephone booth fell from the sky. Strange indeed.
So I can now say a low rate film from childhood educated me without even knowing it. The quote I’ve used many times in my life now almost has meaning - or at least people will understand what Circle K means.
Who knows, if we keep throwing money away like we have been recently, we one day might actually be able to say, “That’s no moon, it’s a space station.”
