During a recent cleaning expedition, the queen of the castle came across an artifact of my life I had almost entirely forgotten about. My CD player.

A CD what? A portable CD player. Funny to think that at one point in time I would have given my left pinky finger to get one, and actually dropped $70 on this bad boy.

cdplayer.jpgI remember it was at the Fair Grounds during one of the many infamous “Extravaganza” sales. I saw it and knew that $70 was a deal, especially at the time. I begged and pleaded and think I had to use the old “it will be my birthday” present excuse.

It served me well at home, but on the go it turned out to be not so great. Frankly, if you farted it would skip. But again, this was before skip protection of any sort - I was just lucky to have one. It was good for car rides and later as my bedside jukebox. Although it did have a Bass Boost switch that kicked some ass.

But now with iPods abound, who needs a CD player? All my music is digital now anyway. Now I only make CDs for my car, and with my iPod transmitter that’s almost not necessary.

Amazing how technology can come and go so quickly.
