Finally, a good use for Twitter

Despite my involvement with getting my company on the Twitter bandwagon, I was still confused with Twitter. I didn’t exactly know where it fit in…until today.
The wife is heading into surgery to get a lump removed from her back hip. Wonderfully it is (probably) benign, but it is large, about the size of your fist. It’s the first time either of us has gone to the hospital for anything serious. The last hospital I was in was Children’s Hospital. So this is a scary event for both of us…but we’re not expecting any abnormal result.
Naturally, there are many folks that want to know how things go (many of you, actually), so I needed a way to keep people in the loop. I didn’t really want to call everyone and have to re-tell the same story over and over, so while at work I thought about Twitter.
Twitter’s hook is cell phones, right? Bingo!
I can easily send Twitters from my phone while I’m at the hospital. Not only will this let everyone stay updated with the situation - at their convenience, no less - it gives me something to do and focus on while I’m there waiting. So Twitter finally has a real purpose in real life…and an important purpose at that.

I’ve never felt a need for Twitter. If I have something to say, I might as well blog it, but I can see how it’s attractive considering the accessibility factor.
I hope the wife’s surgery goes well and she’s back re-enacting the Civil War in no time!
Hunh. I guess there IS a reason for Twitter. I still can’t seem to make myself post anything over there with any regularity.
Best of luck with her surgery!!
Thanks everyone! The surgery went wonderfully, at least as far as surgeries go.
She was done in less than an hour (beat that Lenscrafters!) and the doc said everything is normal, working, and (99%) non-cancerous. Now it’s just rest and repair.
Twitter worked well, I guess. It’s kind of neat to go look at the texts now that it’s all over. Although a large part of me was thinking it wouldn’t work at all and all my texts went someplace else. Since everything really happened pre-9AM, I’m not sure anyone actually checked the Twitter list, but hey…
More soon…
I know I definatly checked the twitter list, but I was up. That seems like a really good use for it. Something Thee and I may employ around March…
Thanks everyone. I feel really good. The waiting around and getting stuck with needles was the hardest part! I can’t see using twitter all the time but it is a nice way to update several people, remotely.
