Discovering music by career
How do you search new for music? Probably by genre, or maybe by artist. But have you ever thought about discovering music based on what type of job you have? I didn’t but it turns out that’s a great way to find and enjoy new music.

New “Priest” movie should just be a cartoon
You’ve maybe seen the trailer for the new Priest movie coming out next month (in 3D, of course). The movie is based on a graphic novel and the story is something about a band of priests that fight vampires. That’s all well and good, but the problem is that I first heard of Priest when [...]

Feeling safe with Xbox Live?
Playstation’s network (PSN) has been down for over a week thanks to a super hack. While the hack has suspended playing any games online, it turns out user data was stolen. My first reaction was, “I’m glad I have an Xbox,” but then started to wonder what if this happened to Xbox Live?

More games “with Friends” please
I’ve lately been hooked on Words with Friends, a Scrabble clone on the phone that lets you play with friends across different platforms and it’s been great. Scrabble certainly lends itself to what could be slow, turn-based play…but there are so many other great games that can benefit from the same treatment.

Is it too soon for a new Wii?
The next generation Nintendo Wii is on the way. Is it just me or does a new console from Nintendo next year seem a little too soon? I know I’ve complained a lot about the Wii but most of that was about the games, not the technology.

The real trouble with Netflix
We’ve had Netflix for just about a year and it’s been great. Only after we got Netflix did I consider cutting the cord on normal cable TV. That hasn’t happened (and probably won’t) but that says something about Netflix…and that’s my problem with Netflix. There’s too much to watch!

Are we witnessing the end of pro wrestling?
I’ve been watching pro wrestling for about 25 years now and every fan knows that the quality of the product has be sliding over the past several years. I don’t expect things to stay the same after decades but recent changes really have me worried.

One post a day challenge
To help myself get into the swing of things with this new design and approach, next week I’ll be testing myself with a post-a-day challenge. At least one post every day.

Yes, it’s that time again…time for a new coat of paint here at Morning Toast. Enough has changed in my blogging world that I think this was necessary to keep me interested. And I see you rolling your eyes…yes, this is a blog post about blogging.

Yet more tales from Counselor’s Corner
I must be doing something right as yet another former Nintendo Power Game Play Counselor has fallen into my interview trap! Unsuspecting ex-GPC Matthew Glidden stumbled across what is quickly becoming a GPC Hall of Fame and made the mistake of leaving a comment…so naturally he had to be interviewed.

Becoming a professional blogger
Everyone is a blogger. I’m a blogger, you’re a blogger. If you have a Tumblr or Wordpress and in some cases, Facebook, you’re a blogger, right? And I know when you hear the phrase, “I’m a blogger” you roll your eyes. I do. But that being said, I am now officially a professional blogger.

The game within the game
One of the first games on got on my PC was SimCity. I got a copy from a friend and it was one of the few games my 486/25 could actually play - off the floppy. SimCity is a game that needs no introduction and we all know that it’s come a long way since [...]

Humans and robots
Robots are near and dear the hearts of any sci-fi fan. Robots spell both hope and fear for the future. But we don’t have to wait until the future to have fun with our robots. Today we have robots playing Jeopardy and we find Detroit in need of a robot hero.

Why Guitar Hero died
Guitar Hero is dead because of one reason: lack of music. If game consoles are only as good as the games made for it, then a music game is only as good as the music you play in it. Guitar Hero failed to support their game as much as Rock Band. That’s why I gave [...]

Shoot the Bullet and take a picture, it’ll last longer
I’ve played a lot of arcade shooters in my time, from Galaga to the almighty Ikaruga. And as one would expect, the gist of all these games is to shoot, shoot, shoot and keep shooting until you get to the end. I like to think there’s more to these shmups than just endless, mindless shooting…but [...]

Taking advantage of Netflix
Recently there’s been a lot of talk amongst friends and others about cancelling their Netflix accounts and switching to other services. We haven’t been on Netflix for too terribly long, not even a year, but I have to say there isn’t much to complain about so it kind of surprises me to hear such angst.

Battletech to the rescue
At some point last year our weekly Friday night gaming ended. After what was pretty much a year and a half of near-weekly Dungeons & Dragons, I think we were all D&Ded out. Of course, personal schedules and interests impacted game time, as it should, but the combination of that with what I think was [...]

Vanquish, run, gun and done
Sega knows how to make an arcade game. They’ve been doing it for a long time and Vanquish is no exception to the rule. It’s fast, fun and action-packed but don’t expect your first time through Vanquish to be anything but short and sweet.

More than just gamers
One goal I had for myself this year was to get more involved with making video games, and that meant coming out of my cubby hole and seeing what I can learn to improve. Too long I’ve sat on “what I know is enough”. It was time to learn more and meet people, and my [...]

Coming soon, Helpful Ninja
I’m in the middle of making a new game and while it doesn’t involve zombies, in many ways it can be seen as a sequel to Zombie Road. It uses a lot of the same mechanics and game play, but puts more focus on rescuing people. Oh, and you’re a ninja.

Crate-O-Games: Section Z
One of my best friends growing up had a TurboGrafx 16, the almost 16-bit game console in the era of NES. Being of much higher capability than the NES, the TurboGrafx was, of course, awesome. One of the games my friend had Side Arms and I fell in love with it.

Playing games, making games
I’ve been making my own video games since I was in 7th grade. I’ve always loved the challenge of building a game in the hopes that it can entertain a few people. Creating something that people can enjoy and have fun with is extremely motivating and rewarding. So to help keep me motivated, I’ve decided [...]

Learning from the Golden Voice
If you create web content - blogs, videos, photos, whatever - you should always produce your product expecting it to go viral. There’s a 99% chance it won’t, but in the rare case it does you need to be ready because by the time you realize it and try to make up for it, people [...]

Vorpal is all boss, all the time
As a consumer of most things arcade-shooter, when I saw Vorpal show up in the Indie store for a dollar, it was a pretty much a no-brainer. And for what it lacks in depth it makes up for with one simple red line.

Protect Me Knight, not tower defense but action defense
Protect Me Knight is an Xbox Indie game that drew me in with retro graphics but blew me away with a great concept, top notch game play and just a lot of fun…not to mention the cool retro graphics and music. If you like tower defense games, then Protect Me Knight brings a new challenge [...]
