I have a love-hate relationship with cars. I love driving them, I love looking at them (the pretty ones at least), I even love watching how they’re made, but I hate hate hate having to deal with and maintain them. Some people grow up knowing cars, some don’t. I grew up learning computers, which means my knowledge of cars is pretty sparse. However, in a recent car adventure I learned a lot.

For those of you that have followed my Hot Wheels race track project, you know I’ve been a lot of talk without much action. Eh, that’s how it goes sometimes. But it is with great pleasure that I can say the track will make its first public appearance at the CAVEradio Picnic next weekend. Time and destruction took its toll on the track but I’m done messing around with it waiting for perfection. Let’s race!

Ever since cable TV killed Saturday Morning Cartoons and the fact that most of today’s cartoons are just pretty much crap, it’s been pretty boring. Of course, the fact that I don’t actually get up on Saturday mornings anymore isn’t helping either. Thankfully the internet is doing it’s part to save Saturday morning, and Hot Wheels is helping. Their new CG cartoon Battle Force 5 is a good old fashioned action ride.

When I found an old childhood Matchbox car I saw it as a challenge. A restoration challenge, to see if could bring back this toy’s former glory. It was pretty well beat up as it was a much loved car back in the day, but it was not beyond repair. And honestly, it turned out prettybitchin’.

I’ve modified Hot Wheels to race, and I’ve modified Hot Wheels to repaint them, but not until recently did I think of or have a chance to restore them. I was looking through a box of old toys to find some for Jen’s kids when I discovered some of my own childhood Hot Wheels and Matchbox cars. One of them was a car I remember dearly and thought it was long gone. It was a little worse for wear and decided to try and restore it to its former glory.
