No regretsy with Etsy for me
I decided to try and sell some of my handmade goods recently and rather than go with eBay I tried Etsy, which specializes in homemade items but I had some doubts about the reach of Etsy. However, those doubts were quickly squashed.

Nashville and the unconventional convention
This year’s vacation was back south, to Nashville this time, but the motivation wasn’t because we couldn’t find a better city to visit, it was toys. Nashville was home to a diecast car convention and I was excited to attend. I went ready buy more Hot Wheels and get the word out about Redline Derby…neither [...]

When work and hobby collide
Turning web development into a career from a hobby has been a blessing and a curse. One on hand, doing it all day at work makes it the last thing I want to do when I get home. But on the other hand, everything I learn and see at work I can take home with [...]

Geeking out to help a good cause
It’s not often you create something that people enjoy enough that you can turn it into a vehicle for helping others. Much to my surprise and joy, Redline Derby Racing (my Hot Wheels project) has done just that, and I’m now using good-hearted geek fun to help a good cause - fighting breast caner.

Hot Wheels racing revisited, a new game
I rarely go back and revisit and/or rebuild anything. I usually work on web projects for the learning challenge and once that’s conquered, move on. I then take all what I learned and add it to the next project, so each new project gets better. However, Hot Wheels is clearly something that deserves love and [...]

Big time, I’m a guest blogger
I’ve been writing/blogging for quite a while now, upwards of 10 years or more. Writing is just something I like to do. It doesn’t matter who, if anyone, reads it…it’s just a way to empty my brain in a fun way. I never expected my blogging to result in much, and it hadn’t until just [...]

Toy cars, real racing
I wouldn’t be much of a self-promoter if I didn’t (once again) talk about the Fantasy Racing League I created that launched this week. After several weeks of testing, it’s finally go time.

Fantasy racing league, a project done
Yes, I finished a project, amazing as that is. After a couple months of weekend coding sessions, I have launched a new web game, a fantasy racing league…for Hot Wheels. Best part is, you don’t have to collect to play, but right now I just need your help testing it all.

What is your fantasy…sport?
In my everlasting attempt to create things to entertain people, I’ve made video games, blogs, radio shows, contests…lots of things, and it’s all been fun, but I have yet to make a web-based game that I consider successful. I’ve tried but it never worked out like I had hoped. I’m trying again and this time [...]

Use your blog to get free stuff
I’ve been writing on the web, most call it blogging, for probably over 10 years now. And if you ask one friend I came damn well close to inventing blogging…although I won’t quite claim that title (but wish I could!). I’ve always enjoyed writing about the things I enjoy, and if you’re truly passionate about [...]

New domain, new blog for Redline Derby Racing
As threatened in a recent post, I launched a new blog last week that is focused around my hobby of Hot Wheels collecting and racing. This new venture is one of the few that require active management.

Plans for a new project, more Hot Wheels
Recently, friend of The Toast and unofficial sponsor of CAVEradio, Alex White, author of The Gearheart, was interviewed about his writings, jobs, design, and all around life. And Alex, in the fashion by which I’ve gotten to know him, rambled on for nearly an hour but one part of the interview really struck a chord [...]

My Hot Wheels race track debuts
For those of you that have followed my Hot Wheels race track project, you know I’ve been a lot of talk without much action. Eh, that’s how it goes sometimes. But it is with great pleasure that I can say the track will make its first public appearance at the CAVEradio Picnic next weekend. Time [...]

Battle Force 5, cars and cartoons
Ever since cable TV killed Saturday Morning Cartoons and the fact that most of today’s cartoons are just pretty much crap, it’s been pretty boring. Of course, the fact that I don’t actually get up on Saturday mornings anymore isn’t helping either. Thankfully the internet is doing it’s part to save Saturday morning, and Hot [...]

Hot Wheels USB drive
I like the weekend projects and when I find one that involves some toys and technology, it’s hard to pass up. I wish I could have come up with the idea myself, but alas I saw it out on the internets and just decided that I can do it too…and hopefully better.

Hot Wheels restoration, lessons learned
When I found an old childhood Matchbox car I saw it as a challenge. A restoration challenge, to see if could bring back this toy’s former glory. It was pretty well beat up as it was a much loved car back in the day, but it was not beyond repair. And honestly, it turned out [...]

Hot Wheels restoration, bringing back childhood
I’ve modified Hot Wheels to race, and I’ve modified Hot Wheels to repaint them, but not until recently did I think of or have a chance to restore them. I was looking through a box of old toys to find some for Jen’s kids when I discovered some of my own childhood Hot Wheels and [...]
