Nashville and the unconventional convention
This year’s vacation was back south, to Nashville this time, but the motivation wasn’t because we couldn’t find a better city to visit, it was toys. Nashville was home to a diecast car convention and I was excited to attend. I went ready buy more Hot Wheels and get the word out about Redline Derby…neither [...]

The stats game
A couple weeks ago I wrote about the announced Call of Duty Elite service, which is seemingly nothing more than a stat tracker, but as I analyze it more and think about what it’s doing, it made me realize that for many (most) games, the stats ARE the game.

Sega World Rally is not what it could be
I love arcade style games and I love racing games, and more often than not the combination of the two provides a lot of fun. So when I saw that a version of Sega World Rally was hitting the arcade I was looking forward to fast and furious racing action, but unfortunately my expectations were [...]

When work and hobby collide
Turning web development into a career from a hobby has been a blessing and a curse. One on hand, doing it all day at work makes it the last thing I want to do when I get home. But on the other hand, everything I learn and see at work I can take home with [...]

Top Gear USA stands alone…like the cheese
As a fan of anything, it’s hard to accept copies, clones and reincarnations. As a fan of Top Gear, the BBC’s top rated car show, it’s hard to take an American version seriously. But Top Gear USA is in a good position and I don’t think it’s worried about fans like me.

Split/Second blurs by other racers
Split/Second is one game where the demo does not do it justice. This game and Blur were released around the same time. I played both demos and Blur seemed like better game so it was there that I placed my bet. While I didn’t bet entirely on the wrong horse, Split/Second is more of what [...]

Geeking out to help a good cause
It’s not often you create something that people enjoy enough that you can turn it into a vehicle for helping others. Much to my surprise and joy, Redline Derby Racing (my Hot Wheels project) has done just that, and I’m now using good-hearted geek fun to help a good cause - fighting breast caner.

Hot Wheels racing revisited, a new game
I rarely go back and revisit and/or rebuild anything. I usually work on web projects for the learning challenge and once that’s conquered, move on. I then take all what I learned and add it to the next project, so each new project gets better. However, Hot Wheels is clearly something that deserves love and [...]

Blur is still good
A couple months ago I praised the new racing game Blur for being the best of both worlds, a great real-world racing game while channeling Mario Kart. That review was based on the XBL demo which was naturally limited and only offered on-line multiplayer. Well, after I fixed my Xbox, I treated myself to Blur [...]

Blur, the next great racing game
Racing is one of my genres of choice for video games. It’s fun, it’s fast, it’s just you and your car. It’s about control and quick decision. Did I mention it’s fast? Well, the latest entry into the world of racers, Blur, was released as a beta this week to public. I grabbed it and [...]

Toy cars, real racing
I wouldn’t be much of a self-promoter if I didn’t (once again) talk about the Fantasy Racing League I created that launched this week. After several weeks of testing, it’s finally go time.

What is your fantasy…sport?
In my everlasting attempt to create things to entertain people, I’ve made video games, blogs, radio shows, contests…lots of things, and it’s all been fun, but I have yet to make a web-based game that I consider successful. I’ve tried but it never worked out like I had hoped. I’m trying again and this time [...]

My Hot Wheels race track debuts
For those of you that have followed my Hot Wheels race track project, you know I’ve been a lot of talk without much action. Eh, that’s how it goes sometimes. But it is with great pleasure that I can say the track will make its first public appearance at the CAVEradio Picnic next weekend. Time [...]
