Galaga Legions DX and Half Minute Hero review

As promised, my reviews of Galaga Legions DX and Half Minute Hero on XBLA. For the most part, both games lived up to my expectations. Two good games worth your time.

Vanquish, run, gun and done

Sega knows how to make an arcade game. They’ve been doing it for a long time and Vanquish is no exception to the rule. It’s fast, fun and action-packed but don’t expect your first time through Vanquish to be anything but short and sweet.

The Expendables, a total sucker punch

For all the action stars The Expendables had in it, it’s too bad they couldn’t figure out how to use all of them properly. To say I was a little disappointed in the movie that could have been - should have been - the ultimate action movie, would be an understatement.

Darwinia+ makes herding cats fun

You know the term “it’s like herding cats”? Well, herding cats has never been more fun than it is in Darwinia+ on XBL Arcade. It’s a great balance of RTS, puzzle game, and God sim. But I was surprised it ended up being a full title in my library.

Alien Breed Evolution, where’s Sigourney?

I saw Alien Breed Evolution on the XBLA release list and it looked like my kind of game. I never played the original version, so I got the demo and quickly found it is my type of game - shooting, aliens, spaceships…and not to mention a nice $10 price tag.

One week with DJ Hero

We all knew that Guitar Hero wouldn’t be the only “Hero” brand out there. With the kind of ridiculous popularity the franchise (and genre) has it was all but inevitable to assume there would be another “Hero” on the block. Well, the first one out of the gate is DJ Hero which will be followed [...]

Scribblenauts, unlocking your vocabulary

After we got an endorsement for Scribblenauts for the DS on a recent CAVEradio episode, I figured I’d give it a chance. It was sold to me as a “you can make it anything” game, but historically speaking those require too much brain power with little pay off in the fun/action department. Scribblenauts, however, I’m [...]

Fossil Fighters, letting dinosaurs do what they do best

I wasn’t real big into dinosaurs when I was a kid. If you lined up a dinosaur, a giant robot, and a super ninja army guy and asked little Brian to pick one, it wouldn’t be the dinosaur. I know some kids got really huge into dinosaurs. They had their room themed in dinosaurs. All [...]

Transformers 2, I’m glad it was free

If you’ve followed my Twitters and even tuned in to the recent CAVEradio episode, you already know that I gave Transformers 2 a piss poor review. I had free passes to see the midnight showing on opening night and while the price was right for the tickets, the ultimate price of losing three hours of [...]

Blast Works, the Katamari of shooters

What would you call a game where the goal is to move around and collect a bunch of random trash? You’d call it Katamari Damacy. But what would you call a shoot ‘em up that requires you to fly around and pick up parts to build the biggest, baddest spaceship? You’d call it Blast Works. [...]
